Washington Parish Council On Aging & Public Transit
The Basics

The Washington Parish Council On Aging is a non-profit agency goverened by a board of directors. The mission of the agency is to promote the overall welfare and independence of persons 60 (sixty) years old and above. The Council On Aging has been providing services to Washington Parish's elderly residents since 1972.

A few of the Available Services we provide are Transportation, Meals-On-Wheels, Congregrate Meals and Information and Assistance. Other functions include coordinating and planning with other agencies and acting as an advocate for seniors. Primary sources of funding are provided by federal and state grants and private donations.

Who Can Receive Services?

Any person aged 60 and older residing in Washington Parish. Several programs give priority to low-income and disabled individuals.

What Do Services Cost?

Individuals are given an opportunity to make a contribution for their services. Contributions are voluntary and confidential and must be spent before federal and state money can be used.

For example, it costs $900 per year to provide Meals-On-Wheels to one homebound elderly person. Approximately $300 must come from client contributions and private donations
